Daytime Sleep Needs by Age

How much sleep does my baby need each day?

Naps - how long should they be? How many naps should your baby take each day? Should you wake your baby if they are taking an extra long nap? Daytime sleep can be such a minefield to navigate, whether you’re a new parent or a seasoned pro.

The frustrating answer to most of these questions is that every baby is different, and will need different length naps. A good rule of thumb is that any nap over 1 hour is restorative sleep and because sleep begets sleep, restorative day time sleep will set your baby up for a good night’s sleep too.

Below is a guide to how many hours per day your baby should be getting by age group. Of course, it is a guide only and some babies will take more / less naps than other babies their age.
